TOBU STORE supermarket will start selling “Paris-style rice balls” (manufactured by Mitsuhashi Co., Ltd.), a fusion of traditional Japanese rice balls and French food culture, at all Tobu Stores from July 19 (Fri.).
The “Paris-style rice ball,” which was picked up by Cookpad last year in its “Food Trend Prediction 2024,” is a uniquely evolved rice ball with the essence of French cuisine, such as tomatoes, olives, and cheese. Even as the consumption of rice in Japan continues to decline year by year, there is growing interest in onigiri themselves, with an increasing number of specialty stores both in Japan and abroad, which is expected to increase rice consumption.
Since Paris onigiri was selected for the “Cookpad Food Trend Prediction 2024” announced by Cookpad, recipes for onigiri made with Paris-inspired ingredients have been posted on various websites, and the Paris onigiri is becoming a quiet boom.
Mitsuhashi company will deliver two products, “Truffle-Scented Beef Ginger Butter Style” and “Salmon Cheese Basil Style,” to supermarkets in the Kanto area, including Super Sanwa, Fuji Cityo, and Tobu Store, from July 26 to August 11, 2010. The suggested retail price is around 190 yen including tax.
