MUJI, known for its simple and functional design, faces the risk of overlapping with other brands. However, it continues to innovate. In 2020, “MUJI Naoyetsu” opened, aiming to become the center of daily life in the Joetsu region by introducing local attractions and new, useful services. Despite limited presence in suburban and rural areas, MUJI succeeded in creating a community-focused store. This newly announced business, supporting accommodations like Airbnb, also leverages MUJI’s affordable, high-quality products, showing great potential for growth amid increasing inbound tourism.
Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd. launched “MUJI room essentials” on June 7, targeting owners of accommodations. This service, developed with Airbnb, offers starter kits including dishware, bedding, and toiletries with MUJI’s simple, functional design. It also supports ongoing purchases and space coordination. The service extends to student dorms, company housing, and model rooms. Leveraging their resources, Ryohin Keikaku aims to utilize their experience from running MUJI hotels and MUJI House projects in this new business venture.
