Starting May 27, LAWSON (Tokyo) has launched the “NL Plant-Based Grissini Tomato Basil Flavor” (168 yen including tax), which is made using only plant-based ingredients, as part of its Natural LAWSON confectionery series at LAWSON stores nationwide (14,026 stores as of the end of April 2025, excluding LAWSON Store 100).
In recent years, plant-based food has been attracting attention in Japan from the perspective of the SDGs, such as preparing for food crises and curbing global warming. LAWSON will begin selling plant-based food products in 2023 as part of its efforts to realize a sustainable society. To date, 13 products have been released, with cumulative sales exceeding 2.5 million units, and the products have been well received.
The newly released products are all plant-based sweets made from plant-derived ingredients, and do not contain any animal-derived ingredients. Based on the traditional Italian sweet “Grissini,” they are seasoned with rich tomato and basil flavors. The shortening (oil) that gives them a crispy texture and the seasonings used for flavoring also use plant-derived ingredients.
Furthermore, each bag is designed to provide half the daily recommended amount of calcium and iron, making it a product that meets the needs of health-conscious consumers.
LAWSON plans to continue to actively develop and sell plant-based products that are environmentally friendly and respond to food diversification.
*The production line for this product also produces products containing raw materials of animal origin.
