Nippon Access has launched the fifth product in its vegetable snack series developed in collaboration with Ishokudogen.com: “Broccoli Stem Sticks with Shichimi Soy Sauce Mayo Flavor” (pictured). By using the stems, which make up about one-third of the broccoli, this product helps reduce food waste by turning the often discarded part into a snack. In 2026, broccoli is set to be added as the 15th designated vegetable*¹. The stem accounts for approximately 35%*² of the whole broccoli, and if only the florets are eaten while the stems are discarded, nearly one-third of the vegetable is wasted. By utilizing the stems to create this snack, the product aims to contribute to food waste reduction.
*¹ “Designated vegetables” are those recognized by the government as essential due to their high consumption and importance in the daily lives of citizens.
Ishokudogen.com has previously developed healthy, easy-to-eat snacks such as the mushroom series “Shiitake Snack” and “Mushroom Snack” in March 2023, followed by the vegetable snack series “Paprika Snack” and “Okra & Nagaimo Snack” in August of the same year.
